Seven by Seven Series

These works are from a series I did as part of my senior project at Marylhurst University, in which I studied artists who use writing in their art. I call them my "seven by sevens" because they are all seven by seven inches. Once I discovered they were these dimensions, I decided it would be cool to do forty-nine works (seven by seven) to make a grid. Seven became a significant number for me during that time as it symbolizes completeness, it was the number of years since a significant friend had died, and the different references to it in the bible (the seventh day as a day of rest, the "number" of times we should forgive) were relevant to what I was going through. The pieces are all mixed media, done on watercolor paper that I then glued to wood and cut out with a table saw. The process of doing them was very therapeutic for me. They were a way for me, at that time, to sort of "purge the noise" that was in my head and come to the still points that you may recognize here and there. There are twenty-five left to sell. I hope that each person sees something different and unique to themselves in these.
